You!

Our Client

Our clients are always part of our team. We recognize and value your importance in the design process. No one knows your business like you do.

Why Us?

Many web designers are primarily artists who've picked up some coding skills along the way. That's not us. We're professional consultants with many years of experience helping clients define their needs and building solutions that work. We bring our rock-solid background in professional systems analysis, design, and user interface design to bear on every project we work on.

Well-designed websites are about much more than good looks. They need to be thought out so that the content serves the needs of the organization and the site's visitors. They need to flow. They need to make sense. They need to be intuitive to navigate and easy to understand. It takes years of professional experience to learn the intricacies of how people interact with computers and what makes a good (or frustrating) experience. We have that experience, and we bring it to you.

This project was a site replacement of their aging website which we created for them in 2004. We replaced the static HTML site with a WordPress site that they can update themselves with new specials, menus, and news items.  We chose light, beachy colors to project a happy, clean, and modern inn.

    Flex Academies After School Programs

This was a new website design for a company that provides after school clubs to K-8 schools. The primary audience — PTA leaders — needed to see a site that quickly answered the main questions in their minds:  (1) What is Flex?  (2) How much does it cost?  (3) How does it work?  (4) What kinds of classes are there?  (5) Security.  Being seasoned PTA leaders ourselves, we had deep understanding of these needs and were able to design a clean, modern site that succinctly answered those questions to remove mental barriers and generate more calls to Flex from prospective customers.

321 Firehouse

Redesign, WordPress, Logo

Overview

The owner of this historic property asked us to design an informational website that she could use to publicly document the progress of her conversion from a dilapidated farm firehouse outbuilding to her family residence. The property is located in an architecturally traditional neighborhood, so she wanted the site to reflect that. Most importantly, she wanted an easy way to use a blog for up-to-the-moment news. We suggested using Facebook and integrating that into her website so that she could eliminate the double-blogging that she had been doing. In addition, she needed a way to highlight vendors, charities, and media articles.

Workhorse multi-purpose site, Joomla CMS, online payments, online store

Overview

This is what we call a workhorse website.  It’s not designed to simply look gorgeous; it’s designed first and foremost to be highly functional. This site is jam-packed with all sorts of capabilities that used to take volunteers hours upon hours to process manually. Everything from collecting online membership dues and donations, an online “spirit store,” listserv signups, online calendar, staff grant applications, and more. And yet it’s clean and well-organized.

Matar Pest Control

WordPress site, content organization, requirements analysis

Troop 1097

Wild Apricot site, membership & event management, CMS

Overview

This pro bono project involved creating a new website for a local boy scout troop.  The troop is run by scouts and adult volunteers. The website needed to be highly functional and simple to maintain. Key features are:

● Searchable directory of members
● Members-only pages (login required)
● Online calendar with automatic event announcements and registrations
● Document storage
● Online payments and invoicing
● Integrated emailing to scouts and adults
● Easy page editing for volunteers to manage

Dispute Resolutions

HTML website, maintenance

Overview

This website, for Creative Dispute Resolutions LLC, provides an online directory of legal mediators and arbitrators in the Washington, DC area.  It’s an older HTML site that we maintain for the client. Every few months we update the site with new mediators and news items.

We considered migrating it to something more modern such as WordPress, but ultimately recommended against that because:

1.    The current site works quite well for the intended audience.
2.    There was not a compelling business reason to justify the cost of switching.

Lesson:  Change for the sake of change isn’t always the best decision.

Critters for the Cure

Wild Apricot site, membership, donations & event management, CMS

This is a pro bono project for a wonderful local women’s cancer charity. The website, created in Wild Apricot, is primarily used to facilitate online applications for financial assistance from patients in need, to collect donations, and to publicize fundraising events. Key features are:

●    Membership & Donation CMS site for a local charity
●    Online application for patient assistance
●    Online donations
●    Photo galleries from events
●    Fundraising event announcements and registrations
●    Online payments
●    Easy page editing for volunteers to manage

Songs by Grandma

WordPress site

Overview

A retired schoolteacher needed a simple website to showcase her children’s CD’s and book.  She wanted a clean, bright look that had basic information, a contact form, and links the the online retail sites where her products could be purchased.  We chose WordPress for this because of its ease of use and variety of off-the-shelf themes available.

// TESTIMONIALS
Don't take our word for it, read what our clients have to say :)
  • Kim Skimmons of Sister Webs has been extremely helpful and thorough in implementing and updating our organization’s Wild Apricot website.  While the Wild Apricot system has its limitations, Kim has successfully worked around these to produce a product that is professional in appearance, functional for our members and at a reasonable cost to our non-profit.

Deanna Smith Kilgour, Western Association for College Admission Counseling (WACAC)

  • CFTC is a grass-roots, volunteer women’s cancer non-profit, providing emergency financial and emotional support to women in MD, VA, and the District of Columbia. Kim (‘Sisters Web Design Studio’) has been invaluable to our organization by redesigning our website which allows us to make most site updates ourselves and continues to serve as our webmaster. Thanks Kim.

Clancy Kress, President, Critters For The Cure

  • There is no doubt in my mind that the Flex Academies’ web site would not be as successful without the hard work of Kim Skimmons.  Kim took the time to get to know our business, discuss our needs, and then made sure the web site reflected our company.  Therefore, our thanks continue to go Kim’s way and we are happy to send any other business owners looking for web site design and construction Kim’s way.

    Joshua Chernikoff, Founder, Flex Academies

  • It was a pleasure working with Kim. We completely redesigned our website from top to bottom. Throughout the design process, Kim was patient and receptive to hearing my thoughts and ideas. Her creativity gave us a final product that we are very happy with. Our website now reflects a true representation of everything our hotel has to offer. I would recommend her without hesitation and look forward to working with her in the future.

    Mike Smith, The Engleside Inn

  • Sister Webs got my Affiliate Chapters’ websites up and running in no time. They can be counted on to get the job done right the first time around.

Terry Hamlin, American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)

  • Kim Skimmons has provided extraordinary service since I began working with her several years ago. She is responsive, creative, professional and eager to help her clients reach their goals and meet their deadlines.  I have never been disappointed in the caliber of her work and wholeheartedly recommend Kim Skimmons for web design services.

Ellen Bradley, Founder/President, The Bradley Group, Inc.

  • Kim was hired by our professional association to manage our website. She is the utmost professional in troubleshooting issues, coming up with solutions, and implementing them in a timely manner. She is able to think outside of the box to offer creative approaches and was instrumental in the redesign and branding of our website. I highly recommend Kim!

    Eric Delehoy, Delehoy College Counseling
