Breast Cancer Information
Why does Sister Webs commit itself to the Komen For A Cure organization?  Simple.  We do it for every man, woman and child who has lost a wife, mother, daughter or friend to breast cancer.  Statistically, that’s almost 100% of Americans.  My sister and cousin are breast-cancer survivors and I have two sons and a 12-year-old daughter whom I hope will not have to experience this disease firsthand or lose someone they love to it.
The American Cancer Society estimates that 182,460 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in American women in 2008 alone.  And an estimated 40,480 women will die from it this year.  It affects women of all ages, races, religions, and income levels.  Even men are not immune with an estimated 1,990 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in men in the U.S. during 2008.

Why Komen?
The keys to eliminating this pervasive disease are:
Ÿ
Early detection and screening
Ÿ
Educating people about risk factors, warning signs, and prevention
Ÿ
Proper diagnosis and treatment
Ÿ
Continued research into advanced treatments and diagnostic tools
The Komen organization has a longstanding commitment to attack this problem on all these fronts.  I encourage everyone to visit their website for detailed information about breast cancer, research initiatives, news, and possibly to make a donation.
